Early Morning Wake Up Calls

In the middle of a very vivid, intense dream, I suddenly sat upright in bed, my heart racing. Light is shining in under my door, and I glance at my clock to make sure I haven't overslept. Nope - 4:00 am. As my tired brain tries to process where the light is coming from, I hear clomp, clomp, clomp as someone walks heavily across the floor of the kitchen. Then comes the sound of furtive movement, and the opening and closing of cabinets and doors. OMG - did someone break into my house? Anxiety starts to set in as my sleepy brain tries to process all this. Then - flush? Wait a minute - I highly doubt a burglar is going to flush. Next thing I know, my door flies open and E marches in - clomp, clomp, clomp. 4:00 am and he is dressed, complete with tennis shoes, two watches, and his favorite Power Rangers shirt.

"Look Mom, I got ready for school all by myself!"

Sigh...4 am.

I have no idea what woke him, or what possessed him to get dressed and eat breakfast at 4 am. I gently guided him back to bed, got him undressed and tucked him in again. Went back to bed and listened to the thump, thump, thump of E trying to get himself back to sleep again. I had finally drifted back off to sleep when my door flew open yet again.

"Mommy, I'm wet, I had an accident."

Change C into dry pajamas, tuck him into my bed, and glance at the clock. 4:50 am. My alarm is set to go off at 5:30 am. C went back to sleep almost instantly. Me? Not a chance.

So if I fall asleep at my desk today, please tiptoe quietly, and don't wake me.
